ASBURY PARK, N.J. (AP) - Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning, legendary Rutgers women’s basketball coach C. Vivian Stringer, “Roots” and “Good Times” star John Amos, and actors Flip Wilson and Danny Aiello will be among those inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame on Sunday.
The induction ceremony, usually held in the Asbury Park Convention Hall, will be a virtual one this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“New Jersey deserves a feel-good night to lift our collective spirits, and the October 18th ceremony will remind us that we have so much to be proud of,” says Steve Edwards, president of the New Jersey Hall of Fame.
The hour-long pre-recorded ceremony will be broadcast at 7 p.m. on NJTV and WWOR/MY9NJ. Online viewers can watch it on NJ.com, facebook.com/NewJerseyHallOfFame and youtube.com/c/NewJerseyHallOfFame.
“Seinfeld” star Jason Alexander will serve as master of ceremonies.
The Unsung Heroes award will go to the crew of the Battleship New Jersey, and Bill Lavin, former president of the New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association and founder of the Where Angels Play Foundation.
Awards will be handed out in the categories of arts and letters; public service; enterprise; sports, and arts and entertainment.
