Flyers' Sean Couturier ruled out for two weeks with rib injury

The Philadelphia Flyers earned their second win of the season on Friday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins, but the victory was a costly one for Alain Vigneault's squad.

Sean Couturier left the contest early due to a shoulder injury and underwent an MRI to see the extent of the damage. The Flyers announced Saturday that Couturier would miss the next two weeks with a costochondral separation, which occurs when your rib tears away from the cartilage that connects it to your breastbone.

In two games this season, Couturier has one assist.

During the 2019-20 campaign, the 28-year-old notched 59 points (22 goals, 37 assists) in 69 regular-season games and won the Selke Trophy as the league's best defensive forward. In 15 playoff games, Couturier notched nine points (two goals, seven assists).

The Arizona native was drafted by the Flyers eighth overall in 2011 and has spent his entire 10-year career in Philadelphia.
