Washington Football Team defensive end Chase Young is expected to be named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. However, Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians believes one of his players deserves the nod more.
Arians said after the Buccaneers beat the New Orleans Saints 30-20 on Sunday night that Antoine Winfield Jr. is more deserving of the honor. He even took a shot at Young in the process.
"Can't say enough about him," Arians said of Winfield, according to Pro Football Talk. "To me, he's the defensive rookie of the year. Seven and a half sacks isn't anything to what he's done."
Winfield Jr., the Bucs' 2020 second-round pick, has 11 solo tackles, two tackles for a loss and a fumble recovery in Tampa's two playoff games.
The Minnesota product appeared in all 16 regular-season games, recording one interception, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, three sacks, 64 solo tackles, one tackle for a loss and four quarterback hits.
Meanwhile, Young had four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, 7.5 sacks, 32 solo tackles, 10 tackles for a loss and 12 quarterback hits to propel Washington into the playoffs.
