Duquesne women's basketball pauses, postpones two games due to COVID-19

The women's basketball program of the Duquesne Dukes announced on Thursday that it is pausing all team activities due to the school's COVID-19 protocols.

As a result of the pause, Friday's game against the George Mason Patriots and Sunday's contest at the Fordham Rams are postponed. No makeup dates were included in Duquesne's statement.

"Duquesne will resume team activities after all members of Tier 1 have cleared COVID-19 protocols," the school added.

Tier 1 personnel include student-athletes, coaches, managers and support staff. Duquesne did not reveal how many people tested positive for the coronavirus or what exactly caused the pause.

As of Thursday afternoon, Duquesne was still scheduled to host the Saint Louis Billikens on Jan. 31. That could change, however, if the Dukes have to complete a 14-day quarantine period.

Duquesne fell to 2-7 overall via a 67-63 loss to the La Salle Explorers last Sunday. According to ESPN, Duquesne has the lowest overall winning percentage among conference teams.

Earlier this week, the Vanderbilt Commodores women's basketball team announced that it was ending its season early because of COVID-19 issues and other setbacks. Also on Thursday, the men's and women's basketball teams of the Old Dominion Monarchs paused activities because of coronavirus-related problems.
