Report: Dolphins trying to trade Kyle Van Noy before releasing him

Earlier this week, the Miami Dolphins informed Kyle Van Noy that they would be releasing him before the 2021 campaign. However, it appears the Dolphins will try to part ways with the linebacker in a different way first.

According to ESPN's Field Yates, the Dolphins have not yet released Van Noy because they are trying to trade him.

Van Noy is set to earn $12.5 million in 2021, which could make it challenging to find a trade partner with a decreased salary cap. The 29-year-old's cap number is $13.9 million next season and Miami would save nearly $10 million if they release him, per Over The Cap.

It'll also be difficult for the Dolphins to trade Van Noy because Miami's willingness to release him has been made public. If an opposing team is interested in bringing in the two-time Super Bowl champion, they'll likely wait until he's released instead of giving up assets in a trade.

In 2020, Van Noy record two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, six sacks, 69 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss and 10 quarterback hits. Before signing a four-year, $51 million deal with Miami last offseason, Van Noy spent three seasons with the Detroit Lions and four seasons with the New England Patriots.
