Giants considering shutting QB Daniel Jones down due to neck injury?

Ongoing rumors claiming the strained neck that sidelined New York Giants starting quarterback Daniel Jones over the past two games could keep him out through the rest of the season had, thus far, been denied by head coach Joe Judge, even though multiple reports surfaced earlier this week saying Jones still isn't cleared for contact and, thus, can't play against the Dallas Cowboys this coming Sunday.

Per Dan Salomone of the Giants' website, Judge said Wednesday that Jones' status hasn't changed, meaning backup Mike Glennon is on track to start his third straight contest.

"We consider that with every player," Judge added when asked if Big Blue could shut Jones down. "We're always thinking about their health before anything else. We're not going to put a player out there when they're at an injury risk.

"In terms of where Daniel's at medically, we've got an entire medical team with doctors and second opinions that are going to weigh in more on that. I'm not a doctor. I've got to take the input and the advice that they give me. I'm not going to put a player on the field when they're an injury risk. When they give me the green light to play a player, then I know that that guy is able to go out there and play safely for that game."

This is the closest Judge has thus far come to hinting Jones' setback could be season-threatening even as the 2019 first-round draft selection can practice and take part in meetings. Discussions about the fifth-year option attached to Jones' rookie contract are inevitable, but the Giants must first worry about his health beyond the campaign's finale scheduled for Jan. 9.

It's believed 2020 fifth-round draft pick Jake Fromm, Glennon's backup the past couple of weeks since joining the Giants from the practice squad of the Buffalo Bills on Dec. 1, could also see snaps against Dallas.

"Every player who's at the game can play and we have plans for every player within a role of what they would do," Judge said of Fromm. "Do we have anything bracketed out at this point in terms of is [Fromm] going to play certain plays or anything? We do not. We do not, so we're getting Mike ready to play the game, but Jake will also be getting ready and prepare to play the game."
